Disability Network/Wayne County-Detroit is seeking a Housing Specialist. 
The Housing Specialist provides housing assistance to consumers seeking housing assistance, compiles updated housing information for co-workers and maintains up to date information on available housing resources in the community.

Essential Functions:
Develop and maintain working relationships with community organizations, service providers, housing providers, landlords and housing organizations.
Provide the four core services to clients: independent living skills training, peer support, advocacy, and information and referral.
Maintain up to date information regarding of community needs and community resources (especially housing resources) which may help consumers achieve their independent living goals.
Prepare information on available housing  co-workers who are assisting their consumers with housing needs.
Assist consumers in locating appropriate housing on short-term and long-term basis.
Assist consumers in obtaining resources for securing housing (i.e., money for rent and security deposits, and unpaid utility bills as necessary.
Develop and facilitate a consumer training to finding affordable and safe housing.
Complete all applicable reports and paperwork, and prepare own correspondence, mailings, faxes, etc. as required.
Make entries related to consumer and community activities to the CFAL database in a timely manner.
Attend staff meetings and job skills trainings as appropriate and/or requested by supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
Two years documented  experience working with housing in the disability community.
Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication with or without accommodation.
Ability to work with others and accept direction.
Excellent organizational and planning skills.
Understanding of and commitment to the IL philosophy.

Computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and internet communication and research.Demonstrated knowledge of housing programs and options for people with disabilities.
